Tryout Handout

 Summit Academy Basketball Tryouts 2020-2021

This is the important information you need to know:

  1. Players should go to registermyathlete.com and begin the process of becoming eligible to play immediately, before tryouts. There is a processing fee RMA collects. This money does not go to the basketball program and is separate from the fees listed below. The most time-sensitive aspect of the process is getting a physical from your doctor.

  2. If you are experiencing any Covid-19-related symptoms, you should not come to tryouts. Contact Coach Baird at summitacademybasketball@gmail.com and we will make arrangements for you to tryout at a later date.

  3. If football’s season conflicts with basketball tryouts, athletes playing football will be allowed to tryout at a later date, after the football season comes to a conclusion.

  4. Tryouts are Monday, 11/9, and Tuesday, 11/10.

  5. Monday, the freshman/sophomore tryouts will be from 3:00-4:30, and varsity will be from 4:00-6:00. Tuesday varsity will tryout from 6:00-8:00; freshman/sophomores will be from 7:30-9:00.

  6. All freshmen and sophomores must attend that tryout and need to have permission or an invitation to tryout for varsity.

  7. You must be academically eligible from Quarter 1 to tryout. Anyone who has more than one F or below a 2.0 is not eligible to tryout. You must maintain above a 2.0 and have no more than 1 F in Quarter 2 to remain eligible. Bear in mind, this is the minimum - we expect academic excellence from every player.

  8. The results of the tryout will be posted on the team blog at summitacademybasketball.blogspot.com.

  9. We will keep somewhere between 12-15 players on varsity, and somewhere between 10-15 players on the freshman/sophomore team. The JV will be made up of players from both the varsity and the frosh/soph team and will not practice separately.

  10. Practice will begin Wednesday, 11/11.

  11. Our typical practice schedule is this: Mondays and Wednesdays 3-6, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-9, Fridays 4-7; Saturdays either 8-10 or 10-12.

  12. Our complete practice and game schedule can be found on the team blog.

  13. There are $250 in fees for basketball: $100 participation fee, and $50 for each of the three following categories: Equipment, Uniform, and Tournament.

  14. Players are also obligated to raise a minimum of $250 dollars. This can be done by soliciting donations from friends and family members, local businesses, or any other source. Fundraising is an essential part of maintaining our basketball program - it helps offset offseason fees, augments the in-season fees we collect, helps pay assistant coaches’ stipends, and helps cover the cost of things like gear, the banquet, and so on.

  15. Players will be able to keep their practice gear, but game gear needs to be well-cared for and returned at the end of the season. There is a $100 fine for game gear that is damaged or unusable beyond the normal wear and tear.

  16. Team rules and expectations are simple: Respect the space we’re in, respect one another, respect yourself. If these are your guiding principles, you will always represent our team, program, school, and community in a positive way.

Summit Academy Boys' Basketball Open Gym and 2020-2021 Tryout Information

Open gym basketball for all interested boys in grades 9-12 will be on the following dates: 10/26 and 10/28 from 7-9 PM, 10/31 8-10 AM; 11/2 and 11/4 7-9 PM. Those currently playing a fall sport during these dates should honor their season and not attend.

We will have an informational meeting for anyone interested in trying out on Wednesday 10/28 at 6:30 PM. Those playing a fall sport should attend the meeting to get information about tryouts. The most important factor in tryouts are grades: To be eligible for basketball you must have no more than one F and must have at least a 2.0 GPA, though we would like you to have better grades than that.

Tryouts will be held Monday, 11/9. Players trying out for the freshman/sophomore team will tryout from 3:00-4:30 PM; players trying out for varsity will tryout from 4:00-6:00 PM. A second day of tryouts will be held from Tuesday, 11/10. Varsity trouts will be from 6:00-8:00 PM; freshman/sophomore tryouts will be held from 7:30-9:00 PM. Practice will begin 11/11. The freshman/sophomore team will practice that day from 3:00-4:30 PM and varsity will practice from 4:00-6:00 PM.

Bears Basketball Club Team Roster

Again, we express our admiration for and gratitude to the boys who came out for the Bears Basketball Club. We hope all the kids who like basketball continue to work on their games and compete as much as possible.

Our first practice will be Wednesday, August 19, from 8-9 PM at Summit Academy High School. Please come in the back doors on the southwest end at 7:50 PM. If volleyball is still on the floor, please hold all the basketballs and only speak in quiet voices to respect their time and space. Bring your own water as it is likely the drinking fountains will be shut off. After practice, each parent should stop in for a moment so we can meet you and get you signed up for our group communication.

We will announce a date for a formal parent meeting as well as a practice, league, and game schedule soon.

The following will comprise the Bears Basketball Club this year. We will divide the boys up into two separate teams at a later date:

Jace Bingham
Jacob Connolly
Dodger Denning
Tristan Duffin
Brayden Ericson
Avi Gotshalk
Korbin Halterman
Payton Jackson
Chase LeVar
Tyler Nielsen
Austin Patterson
Corbin Randall
