Christmas Break Schedule

I have two homework assignments for you guys over the break, and one schedule update:

1. Four separate days over the break, watch a game film. I want you to watch games on different days if you can instead of all on one day because you will process them better. They are all on Hudl. If you have an issue with being able to find one, let me know. Watch them in this order:

2. Read the book Make Your Bed. I suggest reading two chapters/lessons a day. There are ten in all. Choose two that seem particularly applicable to you, your role, and the needs of our team. Write a paragraph about each of the two lessons, ideas, or principles, and specifically explain in detail how you are going to apply it to our team in the final 8 weeks of our season (yes, that's all we have left - it goes fast!). This should be done on paper - typed, or handwritten, either one is fine with me.

3. Schedule update:
12/27: Practice 8-10 AM at Summit. Doors open at 7:30, stretching starts at 8. Film after until 11.

12/28: 9 AM JV v. Kearns, and 10:45 Varsity v. Kearns at Juan Diego, both in main gym. Wear blue. Bring whites just in case.

12/30: 9:30 AM Varsity v. Ridgeline in main gym; 6:30 PM JV v. Ridgeline in elementary gym.  Wear blue. Bring whites just in case.

12/31: 10:45 AM JV v. ICS in aux gym. 12:30 PM Varsity v. ICS main gym, JV v. Grace, Idaho in elementary gym. Wear whites. Bring blues just in case.

1/2: Practice 8-10 AM at Summit. Doors open at 7:30, stretching starts at 8. Film after until 11.

1/3: Games at American Heritage, 3:30, 5:15, and 7:00. Bus leaves at 2 PM.

1/4: Practice 8-10 AM at Summit. Doors open at 7:30, stretching starts at 8. Film after until 11.

Revised Schedule for December 16-21 and Varsity Homework Assignment

Varsity Homework Assignment: Watch the Hunter film. Find two plays in each quarter that we should have and can correct moving forward that will help us win the game. Text them to me individually (not on the group chat). If they involve you, that's best. If they don't involve you, that's okay, too - you can still learn from the mistakes of others. I want to know the time on the game film (it's about 1 hour and 3 minutes long) and the exact thing that should have been done. Example: 1:03:15, the Jazz allow the Bulls to isolate Jordan at the top and don't double him and he hits the final shot - they should have doubled him and made him kick it to another player. This must be texted to me by midnight Monday in order for you to play in the next game (i.e. anyone who doesn't do it won't play in the Merit varsity game and/or the Rowland Hall JV game).

Schedule:

Monday, 12/16: Varsity 3:30-5:30 at Independence; short meeting after, done by 5:45. Sophomores at Timberline Middle at 4:00 PM (game time change); check out at 1:45, bus at 2:00. All players must ride to and from the game on the bus.

Tuesday, 12/17: Sophomore/JV practice at Summit from 5:00-5:45; all players to stay and attend the varsity game at 7:00 vs. Merit Academy.

Wednesday, 12/18: Sophomore and Varsity practice from 5:00-7:00 at Independence; sophs in small gym, varsity in large gym.

Thursday, 12/19: Varsity at Independence from 5:00-7:00, sophomore film session TBA.

Friday, 12/20: Games at Rowland Hall (4:00, 5:30, 7:00), bus at 2:00. All players required to ride to and from the game on the bus.

Saturday, 12/21: Varsity only practice at Summit 8-10 AM. Film and a meeting afterward.

Sunday, 12/22-Thursday, 12/26: Moratorium.

Friday, 12/27: Varsity practice TBA.

Tentative Schedule for December 9-December 21

Note: Due to the unique nature of our gym situation, locations and times are tentative and subject to change. This may differ from the calendar in the varsity binders for reasons beyond my control.

Monday, 12/9: Sophomores at Summit 3-5; Varsity at Independence 3:30-5:30.

Tuesday, 12/10: Sophomore game at Juan Diego (bus to leave at 4 PM); Varsity hopefully at Independence 4:30-6:30. If this is cancelled, we'll try to squeeze practice in at Summit from 3-4:30 before wrestling.

Wednesday, 12/11: Varsity only endowment game vs. Utah Military Academy. Sophomore/JV practice and Varsity walk-through at 5 PM this day. Sophomores are expected to attend the varsity game. All players should bring home gear as we may have team photographs this day though that is still being worked out.

Thursday, 12/12: Sophomore practice 3:00-4:00 at Summit; Varsity practice 4:00-6:00 at Summit with film until 7:00.

Friday, 12/13: Home games versus Hunter. 

Saturday, 12/14: Practice all levels at Summit 8-10 AM; varsity film after until 11 AM.

Monday, 12/16: Sophomores at Timberline Middle School at 4 PM (checkout at 2 PM; bus to leave at 2:15 PM); Varsity practice TBD - hopefully at either Independence or Draper, but I am still waiting to hear from them. If someone can help us out here with another site, that'd be appreciated. The girls had a game rescheduled to this date and no one informed me of this until last week, hence the scramble...

Tuesday, 12/17: Varsity only game versus Merit Academy. Sophomore/JV practice and Varsity walk through at 5 PM. If we don't get team pictures done on 12/11, we hope to get them done this date, so bring your home whites. Again, sophomores are expected to attend the varsity game.

Wednesday, 12/18: Varsity practice 3:00-4:30 at Summit unless we are able to arrange an alternative. If we do, the sophomores will practice at this time; if not, the sophomores will not have practice this date.

Thursday, 12/19: Varsity practice at Independence 4:30-6:30. Again, unless we can make alternate arrangements the sophomores will not have practice. I had a second site secured for this date but got bumped from the schedule...

Friday, 12/20: Games at Rowland Hall (4:00, 5:30, and 7:00 PM). Bus to leave at 2:15 PM.

Saturday, 12/21: Practice at Summit for all levels 8-10 AM with film for the varsity until 11 AM unless otherwise notified.

Sunday, 12/22-Thursday, 12/26: Moratorium. Schedule after TBA soon.

Monday, December 2: Varsity practice 3-5, with film after until 5:30. Sophomores 3:00-4:30.

Tuesday, December 3: JV practice for all sophomore and varsity players dressing JV from 3:00-3:45. Bus to East for all levels at 4:00. There is only a sophomore and varsity game this day.

Wednesday, December 4: Checkout from classes at 12:50; bus leaves at 1:00 PM for Stansbury. Parents should be to Summit Academy no later than 9:15 PM to pick up their students. Everyone must ride to and from the game on the bus.

Thursday. December 5: Varsity practice 5:30-7:30 with film from 7:30-8:00. Sophomores 7:00-8:30.

Friday, December 6: Home game vs. Grand County High School.

Saturday, December 7: All levels practice 8-10 AM with varsity film afterward until 11:00.

Schedule for Week 2 and 3, November 18 to 27, and Week 4, December 2-7.

*As stated on the tryout handout I distributed in October, our typical schedule will be early practices Monday and Wednesday (3-5ish), with later ones (5:30-8:30ish) Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We will typically practice early in the day on Saturdays.

**For varsity, I am listing the things I anticipate we will go over that day in practice so you can study them ahead of time. Study focus for whole week: Defensive terminology found in your binder. There will be a quiz on Saturday which you must pass before you can suit up and play.

Monday, November 18: Varsity 3:00-5:00, sophomores 3:30-5:00. Study before practice: Set plays Double and Push. Side out plays 1, 2, and 3.

Tuesday, November 19: Varsity 5:30-8:15, sophomores 6-8. Mandatory fundraising meeting for all players at 8:15. Be sure to have your email addresses saved in your phone for easy upload that night. Study before practice: Ball 2 and Z13; 30 Series inbound, set play 14.

Wednesday, November 20: Varsity 3:30-5:30, sophomores 3:30-5:00. Study before practice: Set plays Viper and Raider, Holy Cross spread delay offense, Triangle inbound play.

Thursday, November 21: Varsity 5:30-8:30, sophomores 6-8. Study before practice: Ball 1, set play Wilson and 11Z, 4 to Score offense and 40 Series.

Friday, November 22: Blue-Gold intrasquad scrimmage. Girls' sophomores 4 PM, Boys' Sophomores vs. JV 5 PM (first half will be sophomore team only scrimmaging itself, second half will be sophomore vs. JV), Girls' varsity 6 PM, Boys' varsity 7 PM. All players required to attend the 5, 6, and 7 PM sessions. Powderpuff basketball at 8 PM.

Summit Academy High School Basketball Roster 2019-2020

We'd like to thank everyone who came out for the basketball team. The level of play was very high all the way around and the cut was very competitive. It was a difficult decision for the coaching staff. The players listed below should report to practice Wednesday, November 13. The practice schedule for the rest of the week is as follows:

Wednesday: The varsity will meet at 5 PM in Room 155 to get their practice gear. Practice will begin at 5:30 and go until 8:00 or so. We will then have a team meeting that should end by 8:45.

The sophomores will meet at 5:30 to get their practice gear and practice until 8:00.

Thursday: Varsity 5:30-8:30; sophomores 6:30-8:30.

Friday: Varsity 4:00-7:00 PM; sophomores 4:00-6:00 PM.

Saturday: Varsity and sophomores 8:00-10:00 AM followed by a mandatory meeting for players and parents afterward. Parents are welcome to attend practice if they wish prior to the meeting.

Tuesday, November 19: Mandatory fundraising meeting for all players after practice.
